The Bedroom Vehicle Solar Panel Mounting
(The following assumes a roof-rack on your vehicle. If you don't have a roof-rack you may have to drill into the roof of the vehicle. This is up to you. If you do so you will have to silicon-seal the penetrations to make them waterproof.)
The mounting of the PV panel requires the purchase of minimum 16-gauge L-metal channel. The suggested mounting is shown on the diagram. It may be adjusted to suit your situation.
We've used U-bolts available at any hardware store to mount the bottom L-channel to the roof rack. The "X" measurement shown is approximately 6 inches in from either end of the solar panel. The length of the L-metal must be sufficient to span the roof-rack. It will probably be necessary to drill the L-channel to match the U-bolt locations. As shown, use nuts, washers, and lock washers to tightly hold the panel in place. Next you'll mount two more L-channels to the bottom of the solar panel. The distance between these two L-channels should match the distance of the L-channels on the roof-rack.
Then lift the panel with the L-channels attached onto the L-channels already mounted on the roof-rack. You may have to adjust one set of U-bolts so that the solar panel L-channels rest on the outside of the car-mounted L-channels. Once this is done, line up the holes on the two sets of channels and bolt them together using minimum 4-20 by 1 inch bolts, nuts, washers, and lock washers.
