“Wind-Blown Seeds Need Roots: Essence Of Activism – Three”
by Pamela Satterwhite
As we culture-less Americans don’t have a well-established root system like your basic, average, stinkin’ pink jasmine, and as most of us don’t have mother plants like the spider or the strawberry willing and able to nurture us along and help us become whole, we’ll have to accept the truth that we’re wind-blown seeds…and trust.
On the other hand…once we receive those nurturing gifts bestowed from the Great Commons Of Creation, needed to begin growing souls and establishing a root system, it’s imperative to give thanks and waste not a moment in sending our tender scouts, burying our hungry snouts, into those right conditions.
It’s imperative because a mass movement fuels on love:
“You can’t fight for what you don’t love, and you can’t love what you don’t know.”
We’ve been systematically denied access to ourselves, to our inheritance as human beings. We aren’t isolated fragments, we’re part of a fabric. So, those disconnections we feel – with our neighbors and strangers – will have to be healed.
Connections to our earth and our fellows, and to those who’ve gone before and those who come after, ground us, guide us – the only truly oppositional theory (oppositional to the Capitalist Culture-Gap, reverence-gap, values-gap) is wholism, reestablishing our roots in, our allegiance to, the ancestors, the earth, and each other.
If we acquiesce with the podrunk-imposed precept that we all make it up as we go, create ‘culture’ on our own in our individual cells, apart from reverence, apart from all who’ve suffered to make our lives easier…that’s but acquiescence in the annihilation of culture, and it’s culture that makes us human beings.
We’ll have to systematically weave, because we’ve been systematically unwoven.
Our connections have to be tested, strengthened and praised to be viable, and we can’t become whole if they aren’t.
We can’t challenge capitalism while manifesting its absences.
We’ll have to grow some reverence to reclaim our own at any hazard.
